Serra Chapel Storm Clouds

Shandon, California

Gallery: Central Coast

I didn't realize it was actually a chapel...

We were driving down the highway near Shandon, California, and I looked up briefly and saw a building that looked like an old mission high up on a hilltop. The sky was blue-gray with storm clouds, but the sun was lighting up the building. I thought, “what a beautiful moment.” So we turned around, I got my camera out, and tried to capture the moment.

It wasn’t until years later that I found out it is, in fact, a small chapel. I thought it was just a nice feature on a vineyard.

Now called Serra Chapel, you can still find it on most maps labeled as Chapel Hill.
